“Fitness”, in the evolutionary sense, is determined by an organism’s success at reproduction and survival. If I have kids, and they go on to reproduce, I’ve succeeded. If I fail to reproduce - I’m the first to fail at reproducing in my entire lineage stretching all the way back to the first single-celled organisms - I’m an evolutionary dead end. Though my species will continue, I, as an individual, am unworthy of replication.

Now, compare all the Chads in the club to all the Fat Joes and Fat Marys walking around Wal-Mart with six kids in tow. Who’s more “fit”? More Alpha? The fit dudebro slaying hundreds or Fatty McFattersons doting on his kids? The dimes aren’t having the kids (or delaying until their options, and ovaries, dry up). As a matter of fact, I’ll opine that when it comes to having options in human mating strategies, less is more. That is, less choice, and being forced to settle, may actually increase your genes’ odds of survival.

Or is alpha about muscles and money?
