Hey guys,
Yesterday, a girl I'm seeing had a pet run away from home. Compared to other girls I've been with in the past, this girl is very outwardly expressive with her emotions. I like that because you can figure out if there's something wrong very quickly, and she went kind of manic. I would describe her as a 'gentle soul'.
Anyways, she was so distressed that she was running around and couldn't really explain the situation (that her animal ran away), so I had to piece together what little she explained coherently to understand the situation. Once I figured it out, I knew I had to help (find the dog) and try to calm her down. I think my presence calmed her down, like I have in the past when she gets emotional, but I feel like, for as strong as my frame was, it didn't just nullify the situation. She didn't just believe "Oh, this guy is going to help me. Everything is gonna be A-OKAY", nor should she because we haven't known each other that long.
I guess my questions are: Is that ever the case? Could your frame overcome particularly stressful or emotional situations like this one? I was pretty calm, but I figure if someone close to me died, I would be a bit upset and there isn't much other people could do at that point to help.
No matter how strong my frame is, am I just going to end up in situations that I can't fully control just by being calm, level-headed, and telling a couple jokes (when appropriate)?
Or is it ever appropriate to go into the girl's frame? I know, I know, SIDEBAR. But because we're empathetic beings, is it ever good to be like "Oh she's upset, I'll be upset too" the way dogs vibe off your emotional energy? I think sometimes when people are upset, they just want other people to be upset with them and you won't necessarily be weaker for it.
Not looking for a "right" answer, but any input would be appreciated. Thank you
