I like H&M, I'm 5'6 and they seem to have shorter/smaller than average clothes. But I also like tighter, form-fitting, asymetrical designs and minimalistic stuff. Which, to that end, anyone know other similar places?

you will soon learn that namebrands mean shit. Get clothes that FIT YOU, not some male supermodel. Just avoid crap places like walmart. Contrary to popular belief, men have a much harder 'impossible image' compared to women that gets shoved down our throats through mass media.

Dont go to malefashionadvice. They talk about swestpants and airmax. That sub is a fucking joke. And anyone who disagrees with sweatpants gets downvoted and hated to no end.
Start by looking around. Look at men who are successfull in life. Living the way you want to live. Men who are good with women. And copy their clothing down to the fucking wrinkels in their shirts.
Get comfortable wearing it. Dont think about what your wearing while youre wearing it.
Any male outlet or male store would do. Nothing mainstream. If theres an old man with a measuringband (dont know the english word) around his neck wearing a dark blue blazer and a nice shirt and some killer shoes in there helping you out you know youre at the right place.
You dont want 20 y/o girls working there. They dont know SHIT about male fashion and clothing. Think south italy.

malefashionadvice can be hit or miss. It's very much a hive mind of creating style vs knowing what is in style. A lot of what they suggest is impractical.

I spent alot of time there becaus i love fashion. But that place makes me furious to no end. Theres no fashion or style in that place. The practical advice, like how a suit should fit is never produced by the sub. The sub only links from external sources for upvotes since they have no fucking clue themselves. Fuck that place!

The practical advice was what I was lacking. I was married for 17 years so I had regressed to dad style and didn't really give a fuck as to whether or not I looked good when I left the house. Most of my wardrobe consisted of ill fitting polo shirts that the ex bought, vests my ex mother in law bought, and tshirts my kids bought me. I needed to nuke my closet and start from scratch! Luckily I found some better advice by Googling. I feel better about my style choices now, at least to the point that I feel comfortable with what I wear and I'm not concerned about it being ill fitting or not flattering.
Making sure you have the proper fit is the first key to looking good. I'll never forget the woman at who explained to me what the measurements in the shirt were, then she took my measurements and helped me pick out a few colors that suited me.

MFA is a fine place for a college age kid to start exploring "style". You are of course going to get a lot of Oxford button downs and CDB's as mild advice because truthfully, that's pretty hard to fuck up.
Jumping right into a "street wear" style without any previous trial and error experience about what looks good on you is asking for issues.
The same can be said about jumping right into "higher" fashion as well. My tailor is an old guy with that measuring tape draped around his neck and it would be a disservice to point some 22 old kid to him to get quality stuff made. They aren't going to get the value out of his expertise because they themselves don't even know what they like yet.

Very open question, I would suggest going to /r/malefashionadvice , start saving pictures of styles you like. Take note on where to buy them. Budget will determine what you can buy, I tend to say it is important enough to spend a bit more on. Less expensive clothes vs lots of cheap items.
