People get upset (and they express through downvotes) when their expectations are violated.

If you expect to pay 2.00/gal for gas and they ring it up at 2.50/gal, you're going to be upset.

The modern narrative in the dating world is the following set of expectations:

Men want sex, at all time, from every woman, and will take it by force if necessary
Men are not able to refuse sex from a woman
Men usually have to approach women, so a woman approaching a man would never be turned down

Basically, whenever you violate one of these expectations, they're going to be pissed.

Of course, there are plenty of reasons a man won't have sex with a given woman, or doesn't want to date a given women, but those aren't really internalized in our set of expectations.

Unconfident women are the best kind of women - they don't treat you like shit - and shyness is one of the sexiest traits in a girl. I think turning down a girl because she's "unconfident" is really just rationalisation. She was simply unattractive, but he can't tell himself he turned her down for THAT, then he'd be shallow.

Why do you think?

A minority of men actually have firm standards and are selective about their mates. Most dudes take whatever bit of affection comes their way and run with it, hoping by date 3 they will score.

When they see another guy doing the higher value thing, they flip out because it exposes their own mediocrity to themselves.

And women downvote it because most women are obviously average. They resent the idea that guys could feasibly realize that they are average and say "thanks for the sex, but no thanks on the relationship, I can do better."

He could have easily misread her. I'm not saying he was wrong but just because she didn't ask him out doesn't mean she wasn't confident. She may have waited so she could judge what type of guy she is.

Also, this guy is probably a liar and this didn't happen. Guys don't just randomly turn down chicks because they arn't confident. He could have easily had gotten w.e he wanted out of her and left. Plus GL to this guy finding a S.O with an attitude like that. His relationships will last all of a week tops.
