Because we grew from apex predators to spoiled little things that won't starve to death if we try. Things that should be big, hard and meaningful, namely not dying and getting laid, are pretty much granted. So you basically need to pick something else, make a solemn vow saying "this is important" and convince yourself of that. Do it.

That's all there's in that line. We evolved to eat, fuck and survive. They're all pretty much granted these days, so we lack hard wired meaning for things. Life couldn't be empty when you spent all your time trying to do those three things. Now it can. You need to elect something and make it important to you (western) or embrace it (eastern).

First is work, I managed to make it meaningful some years ago. I have a couple of pretty stimulating hobbies too.
Thank god for being a girl, you have "kids" hardwired into you, and the little booger makers are as draining as they come. Raising them right has a special kick for men, I can't really fathom how it must be for you.
