Probably just having a power trip. Take as many hits as you would like. If it's clear he's just bossing you around for no reason, then bring it up with his superior.

You kind of answered it yourself. He is your superior and in charge of you. He might be having a power trip and wants to make sure everyone is in his frame (that is literally your job when you are the boss).

Read the book "48 laws of power" and apply what you learn from that book.

He needs an ego check. If he’s not a direct report then ignore him or say “no, I think you should try “blank” instead” if he’s making BS requests. Need more context though.
