Is setting up a date for the same day a bad idea?

Is it a bad idea to ask for a girls number in a bar setting or is this just socially retarded?

Suppose that we were playing a game at a coffee shop setting with my friends and a few girls that were strangers until the time that we started playing - how should I make my intentions clear to a particular girl that i'm interested in?
