I was out last night at my usual watering hole, and there were actually more women there than men, so I was mingling and meeting some new people, reconnecting with acquaintances, etc... At one point, I was talking to a HB8 that I know very tangentially. We had been talking a good ten minutes, when her HB9 friend came up and joined us. She's also someone I've met a handful of times, but our social circles don't usually match up.

Literally the first thing she says to me is, "Are you gonna buy me a shooter?" to which I respond "How about you buy me a shooter?" and continue the conversation I was having with HB8. We were talking about music, so HB9 asks me what my favorite bands are. I began listing them, but HB9 interrupts me and says "No, really, are you gonna buy us some shooters?" I pause a moment for dramatic effect and just plain, flat out tell her no, followed with a very sarcastic "It was nice seeing you again," and I walked away.

Immediately after, I was struck by the huge difference in how I handled the situation from before in my AFC days. I can recall on my 21st birthday, some random girl I'd never seen before just came up and asked for a drink, so I obliged. Now, I'm coming from a place where I don't give women that "power" over me, simply because they're women. They're not entitled to my money or free drinks just because they have vaginas.

I even talked about it with other men and women at the bar, and they all had the same stance that I did. The girl was totally ridiculous for expecting me to buy her a drink, and particularly rude about it. In fact, I felt pretty good about myself for denying her, because she's not the kind of girl that's used to hearing no. It's not to say I never buy women drinks -- it's situational for me -- but you definitely need to realize that, as a man, you don't owe a woman anything.
