I frequently see posts from guys who don't feel ready to make a direct approach, so they ask for a baby step--something they can do to eventually work up to approaching. Even I've made posts asking for a baby step. Take what I say with a grain of salt, because I'm not a pua by any means. In my observation, what people want from a baby step is something they can do that gives them the illusion of practicing game without taking themselves out of their comfort zone.
I once went to the mall and repeatedly asked people for the time with the hopes that it would help with AA. Only now do I realize that what I then saw as a baby step was actually a form of procrastination. For me, asking someone for the time was not a big deal, but for some reason or another I thought if I asked enough people what time it was, I could then tell a stranger how cute she was. I wasn't practicing game. I was avoiding practicing game.
All of this isn't to say that baby steps are worthless. If you use them correctly, they can be of great benefit. Just remember that the purpose of taking a baby step is to take you out of your comfort zone. Rather than asking someone for directions or the time, tell you you have an itch on your back that you can't reach and ask them to get it for you. Give someone a genuine compliment. Do anything that makes you a little bit uncomfortable.
If you really want a baby step, I suggest looking at a youtube channel called LAHWF and copying some of the stuff he does. His videos are great by themselves, but if you do some of what he does, you'll be one baby step closer to where you want to be.
