Hi guys (throwaway account here), 22 y/o male here. Me and my SO broke up yesterday so tonight instead of sitting indoors feeling sorry for myself I decided to head out to a few bars/pubs and see what sort of situation I found myself in. I'd just like to point out that I found Seddit a few months ago and have been reading a few bits and pieces over an extended period, me and my SO had been together around 2 and a half years, so I have been pretty bummed the past 48 hours or so.
Anyway! I went to various places and just didn't have the confidence to go up to and speak to people. Now, this might be due to what you guys call 'inner game' problems, but my job is in high-street retail, so I approach and strike up conversation with multiple people whom I don't know in varying age groups and sexes every day. In one of the bars I was in, this HB8 and her friend, around a HB7 turned up and were hanging around the bar. I quite like the look of one of them and was sat in the corner of the bar on my own (I know, creepy, but I couldn't get a wingman/woman on short notice so I thought fuck it [a massive step for me btw] I'll go out anyway) and looked over and saw her glancing at me. I thought nothing of it but whenever my gaze looked over in their direction I saw the one I liked the look of having a peek, I gave her a smile, which she reciprocated, so time to go over and say hello, like I do every fucking day, right? Wrong. I completely froze. I went up to the bar to get another drink, looked over at them while they were dancing, and couldn't think of a decent way to introduce myself, so I let the opportunity get the better of me. Shortly after, a group of guys turn up (about 6+ guys) and start talking to the two girls, one of them immediately starts kino with HB8 and she doesn't really pay me any more attention after that point, at which point I leave the place after finishing my drink.
I realise that I totally should have gone over and said hello, but do you guys reckon that I was in an unfamiliar surrounding held me back a little? Having been going out with my ex for over 2 years, I hadn't really had the opportunity to go out on the town in a long while.
The second thing I wanted to talk about is groups! All the women in the pubs I visited were in groups of at least 5/6, with a mixture of males/females. How on Earth do you approach such a big number and say 'Hi, my name is...' when their conversation is constantly on full-flow and continuous? I found this really hard, which is why I am really kicking myself extra for not approaching HB8 and her HB7 friend in the bar midway through my evening.
Anyway guys, any help greatly appreciated!
