Don't aim for the number. If you're out at night, people are out to have fun, drink, and socialize. Aim to have a good conversation with the girls you speak to. Also, you must be physical with the girls. Physicality is very important. Without it, girls will often say they don't feel "it". Every single guy who gets girls to go out with him, is physical and is not afraid to show his sexual side. So, increase the time you talk with the girls you're speaking to and move things forward. The number is not that important. If any guy is speaking to girls for 5-10 minutes and isn't making moves, he will get flaked on. I've been there so many times in the past.
Guys Coming In - This is very common during the night and handling it is simple. When a guy comes in to talk to the girls you're talking to, first stay cool. Don't worry. Allow the girl to talk to him for a few seconds and see how it goes. Most of the time, a guy will enter and he will mess it up for himself because he's being too needy. If you see that he's not messing up by being needy, just take over the interaction by introducing an interesting conversation thread and engaging the girl again. If you don't do this, he will take the girls you're talking to. I know, it's harsh but the girls don't care. They're attracted to the guy who can lead and by doing that, you show leadership.
When in a group and you ask for a number - Your aim should not be to get the number. Interact with the whole group and get them to like you by being cool and engaging. Learn the whole group's names and interact with them. If the group doesn't like you to some degree, it won't go anywhere with the girl you like because girls often care so much about what their friends think of them. Only go for the number when they have to leave to a place you can't go, otherwise go with them and enjoy your time with the group. Remember to make move on the girl you like though. That's the number one reason why people often get friendzoned.
