I'm 22, technically disabled even if I don't really class myself as it, I have never been in a relationship or even on a date and I'm still a virgin.
When I was in my mid-teens I was more focused on enjoying time with my friends and schoolwork. At the time I obviously found girls attractive, but just figured that dating and relationships would fall into place when I was a bit older and I wasn't too bothered about it. Since leaving school at 18, as time has flown by I have become more and more conscious and anxious about the fact that I have no dating/relationship experience and that I am a virgin.
If I'm honest I don't have that much self-confidence when it comes to women. I have plenty of female friends and have no problem interacting with women as a friend, however, the main reason I lack self-confidence with women in terms of romance is because of my 'disability'. I have two lower leg prosthetics. I am not an amputee but my lower legs and feet simply did not form properly. Luckily, I can walk without prosthetics but I wear them outside of my home as it would be too sore and impractical to walk outside without them. The prosthetics have odd shapes, sticking out to the sides towards the bottom and this is visible under trousers. It annoys me when I walk down the street and people just stare at them wondering what's going on under my trousers, but I understand it's such an odd thing to see. It affects my confidence especially when it's girls looking because I just assume they'd be turned off by my disability. I hate self-pity and know that there are plenty of people in the world with prosthetic limbs who have happy relationships, but I struggle to see how a woman would be attracted to me because of my legs.
At the risk of sounding cocky, I have been told that I'm a good looking, funny guy, who lives a fairly 'normal' life. I think that most people would assume that I've lost my virginity already by the way I act. I have been told that I can be quite naturally flirty. This must be a personality thing as I don't consciously flirt with girls, not even that sure how to consciously do so to be honest. If I do like a girl I become more reserved and don't really joke around as much and watch what I say more. I have never asked out a woman or approach women as I always tell myself that they're either in a relationship or won't be interested in me. I also think that if I really find a girl attractive enough that I would like to date her, then she deserves a guy that's better than me. I think deep down I tell myself this because of my legs. I've read a bit about escalating with women, but I don't really know how to implement the tips naturally if that makes sense?
In the past I've known or been able to tell that a few girls have been attracted to me, but unfortunately I haven't found them attractive. I have only kissed a few girls that I haven't even been that attracted to on nights out. Obviously since I haven't had any dating or relationship experience, losing my virginity hasn't happened down that line. I feel like a random hook-up or one night stand wouldn't be ideal in my situation since I think if one did happen then it would be awkward when I go to take my prosthetics off or the girl would be turned off. I would prefer to lose my virginity to someone that I was at least dating but again my self-confidence is affected by the fact that I think girls would find it weird/creepy that I'm still a virgin and have never even been on a date. I think that sometimes I don't try anything with girls because I feel like if I want to lose my virginity in a relationship then I need the girl to be the right match in so many different areas and I think I'm possibly too picky, especially for someone in my position.
Do I need to lower my standards? How can I possibly bring up my disability in conversation naturally to gauge a woman's feelings about it?
Deep down I know that I need to just get a grip and although I don't like self-pity, I need to stop feeling sorry for myself. I just don't know where to go from here and would really appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance.
