I have a lot of trouble approaching groups. If girls are alone I can approach them no problem and just open with "Hey I thought you were cute, I'm Riding_Crossbow" but I feel like I come off as predatory or something since their friend just left to go dancing or something.

One of the problems is that I have trouble hearing, and I have to lean my head in a lot to hear, which isn't so possible with groups of girls.
