Bootcamp review - Lovesystems
To summarize my experience in a sentence, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
I read the game by Neil Strauss when I was in college and taking a bootcamp like the ones portrayed in the book was always something that piqued my interest. A few years later I had the means to pay for the bootcamp so I signed up.
Right off the bat the first thing I did not particularly care for was the fact that I felt infantilized. I definitely wanted to grow in the area of picking up women, but I am a pretty socially well adjusted person...I went to an Ivy League school and always had a lot of friends growing up. I wasn't particularly lacking in social skills and was pretty satisfied with my life. In college I had a few hookups here and there had been in one relationship. When speaking to me, I felt like the instructors spoke to me like I was a socially inept loser... And I couldn't help but feel like I was being spoken down to or spoken to in a way that was insulting to my intelligence as a person.
I told the instructors the first day that I was there that my main problem was running out of things to say. I told the instructor that I wanted to hear what he was saying in set and how he dealt with the interaction after approaching. Also, wanted the instructor to give me tips on how to carry out an interaction after approaching. I assumed that I would be doing sets with the instructor so he could specifically judge how I transitioned, the content of my small talk etc....and I would see how he would handle all of these things up close. Throughout the two nights the instructor never did a set with me. How could the instructor possibly judge my interactions by observing from a distance. I suppose he could judge body language, etc..but he couldn't really fully judge the interaction unless he was beside me. Similarly, I couldn't tell how he handled himself through an interaction. I've realized now that not running out of things to say and improvising on the spot are the types of things that develop with time. A bootcamp can't solve that problem, only time can. This did not significantly change my trajectory in terms of improving with women. I was doing the same things before and after the bootcamp. Tbh I am kind of disappointed in myself for falling for this. All of their advertisements are so clickbaity. They claim to have some sort of powerful, life changing formula for picking up women when their advice really doesn't deviate at all from what the average male does in a bar. When I read the game, the whole shtick was to do something unique and different from what the typical person does. I saw none of that, and didn't see how the material I learned in the seminar would really change my life. I wasn't convinced that the average old, balding, ugly, geeky, minority would really make himself standout when the types of things he would be saying wouldn't be anything new to girls at the bar. I told the company about my experience through sales calls that they made and they always gave me the impression that they were going to do something about my experience. I realized it was only lip service. Nobody ever tried to rectify my situation. On the other hand, if you leave a negative review...Lovesystems will bend over backwards to give you what you want so that you change the review as is seen in TrustPilot. This to me proves they care way more about PR than customers. I do believe at some point Lovesystems was an industry leader. But their failure to innovate or improve their product despite many newcomers who are offering much better products at a lower price point is leading them to irrelevance. They refer to themselves as the largest dating company in the world, but by what metric? Other companies far surpass them in the amount of likes, and generate a lot more buzz. I think the company still deludes themselves into thinking they are something better and different. They offer the most expensive products in the industry and fail to meet the quality of their competitors. The company needs to lower their prices in order to compete because they've been beat. They need to do their market research and innovate because they are no longer the market leader. I am now skeptical of any posts I read online or comments I see on news articles. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those comments or posts were posted by employees of the company. I really wanted to like Lovesystems and the bootcamp but through my experience realized that what you read online is simply a manufactured image.
