Text, unless I've told her I'll call her. I don't really do the phone in general... she basically gets a "How are you" text followed by an "I'm doing this awesome thing on this day, want to join?"

I really don't think girls care that much. Maybe if she's old fashioned.

My invites are pretty casual though... "Hey I'm going to X on Friday, care to join?"

Generally X = something I was going to do anyway.

Plus I'm selfish about it anyway -- I don't like talking on the phone, so I'll send the invite on my time and she can respond (or not) on her time. If she hasn't replied within 24 hours, I invite someone else. No biggie.

A couple days ago I told a girl I would call her to set up a date this next week. I'm in that boat of terror as well because texting is so much easier. It's like a status update, whereas a call is beyond superficial. Call her!

I find that my relationships are stronger with people that I talk on the phone with. I usually text for logistics and try to call for anything else. It helps if you mention to the girl that you will call her so it isn't a big surprise for her. Keep in mind though that some people may have shitty phone plans that makes it too expensive to talk on the phone or they may suffer from phone anxiety (because they've been texting all their life). Play it by ear.
