Chick asks what a small crowbar was used for; me and the dude knew exactly what it was for but our responses were different.

I had a good feeling that guy was going with the most boring answer you could give at that moment: just the actual use of the item.

I wanted to come up with something more amusing, etc so I said that it was "used for anyone who got out of line" and that "that was me for a while but am working at it".

Of course, she laughed at that but the guy seemed unamused as if I'd just farted in his mouth or something and proceeded to "clarify" the situation.

Again, one tactic of being interesting is to tell these "stories" in otherwise mundane questions or situations.
