Affirmations help me a lot. I do this:
Affirmations can be used for self-hypnosis, they don't have to be just things to raise your self-esteem. For example, I was having trouble doing direct approaches so I created these to change my subconscious attitude towards pain (fear of the emotional pain of rejection/awkward interactions was a big part of what was freezing me from approaching)

Affirmations only work if they’re believable and achievable. A short man will never be tall no matter how many nice things he says to himself and a ugly person will not become beautiful/attractive just be saying that they are.

Its probably more useful to explain the logic behind those affirmations. I was out trying to do direct approaches and I was freezing up. My mind would not let me do them. I thought about it for a while and I think it was because my subconscious was trying to protect me from pain. Similar to if I tried to bite my finger off or punch myself in the face really hard. I'd have trouble doing these things even with a really big incentive. So what I did was try to create some affirmations that re-framed my minds interpretation of the approach pain. In fact I think the pain I was afraid of wasn't even rejection, but the potential awkwardness and negative energy of a bad approach. So I wanted my mind to view that type of pain as exciting instead of bad. There are some types of pain that are fun, such as contact sports, working out at the gym, the terror of skydiving. So I wanted my subconscious to me more like "Oh shiiiiiit, this might sting whoooooohoooooo!!!!!"
Another thing to be aware of with affirmations is you can't use modifiers. You can't say "I'm not afraid of approaching" because the way your subconscious works, it really only hears: "Afraid approaching". So now you're just reinforcing the concept of fear with approaching. So instead you have to be like "I am excited to approach". And your subconscious hears "Excitement approaching".
That all being said, here are the affirmations I'm currently using. Some of these are self-confidence affirmations. But others are more like self-hypnosis:

Wow! I'm going to do this. Were you able to start approaching women regularly after doing this? How long did it take?

I can do direct approaches now, but not "at will" the way I would like. I have to take about an hour to work up to them. This did get me closer to the goal though and I think the part it played was significant. A few other things I did that got me closer:

Man, I wish approaching were easier for us.

Yeah me too. I do feel a lot better about it now. I think I will be comfortable with it in about 1-3 months at the rate I'm going now.

Sweet! What I'm struggling with immensely is getting the courage to go for the makeout. Haven't been able to do it yet. I'm going to add to the hypnosis "I have the confidence to kiss several girls". Do you think this will help?
[–]ChrisDarmount 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don’t see anything wrong with that one. I might I also try: * I kiss women * I go for the kiss * I initiate kissing * I initiate * I take action

Ok. Do I put the affirmation list on an infinite loop for the whole night every night? How do I make it so it's not that hard to fall asleep? Should I just get used to it even if I find it "annoying", despite how useful it is?

My inner dialog brutalizes me constantly. These are some good tips. Just don't forget that it will take time. A lot of it.

Yeah man, like years. I went to a hypnotist and still go regularly

Better start young or else you’ll just be wasting your time.

OP thanks for this. As others said it takes times but I had a legit wake up call Thursday. Went on a date with a girl I was crazy for and my inner dialog was trashing me saying I’m not good enough or I’m weak compared to her ex bf.
Needless to say girl ghosted after the date and I’m here seriously wondering how I can take my dating life into my hands

Yea I’m working on it. There was a long time I was focusing on myself but now I’m just trying to get out there for practice and building.
It sucks because my heart isn’t in it. I’m just so wrapped up in my work and own life I don’t have the energy to really reach out much

Yep it’s life. Got dumped every 2018 so I filled up most of the year with rebounds. Then spent the end and 2019 on the find myself leg. Next up is the getting back out there.

It's difficult teaching myself that! Actually BJJ is a great hobby for drilling that concept into your head.

True confidence radiates from you. People will feel it directly. One way to achieve this, is to change your mindset aka inner dialogue. For example, instead of asking yourself "am I worth their time"/"am I good enough" ?. Say: "Does this person add value to my life?" or "is it worth investing in this person for long term"?

Aspie with no inner dialogue or monologue, ever.
Game never came quite as easy, though I've hit the end game so I'm good for now. It would be cool to "meditate" like others and not be in a constant state of nothingness (?) Meh
