You're at a loud party/bar/festival, talking to a beautiful woman who shares your interests. You're reading her body language and looking for signs of attraction. But what about those moments where you two are briefly separated and she goes to the other side of the room to talk to her friend about how it's going?

There's no better way to read a girl's mind than to hear her thoughts straight from her mouth in order to find out whether or no she's interested in you. This is why at parties I often have a dedicated wingman try to get close to inconspicuously listen in on their conversation and get you some feedback.

However, that's not always an option if they're not standing near your friend or something that your friend has an excuse to go near without seeming like he's (or she's, female wingmen can be useful) eavesdropping. So, assuming she's still in range of sight but not hearing, what can you do besides occasionally try to get a look at her facial expressions/body language?

My thought was that if I was able to read lips from a distance while remaining stealthy (so as to not have it look like I'm staring at them), I could pick out some key words to fill me in on her potential interest.

This doesn't mean staring at her while she talks to her friend the entire time, only picking out sentence segments that suggest her opinion. This way you could find out if her smile is genuine, or simply faked out of pity. It's somewhat risky and I (not knowing how to read lips) would most likely use the tactic with extreme caution. That being said this could be a very useful tool for those moments where she's confessing her feelings (or lack thereof) to others and let you know whether or not to continue.
