Ask to exchange contacts with them, but usually only after I've already had a few dances with them (usually not all at once, but it can be back-to-back if our chemistry was amazing).

If you can get to a level where you can auto pilot and talk at the same time, it'll give you a pretty big leg up (though it takes a while to get to that level. I think I danced salsa for a good 3-5 days a week for almost a year before I could do it. But when I could, it was like a switch flipped for me).

My own personal issue is that I feel awkward about standing (ie not dancing) and talking to a follower, which limits the amount of time I can talk to them. ...I think I am projecting that they'd always rather be dancing.

If they talk turn arround and reach the back so you can hear clearly. Dance when you answer then approach to listen ( your head next to hers ) Don't touch her if you can, only if she press her waist. Either stay as cool about it as possible ( no drugs )

The best way to escalate is to be direct. They’re dancing with you, they enjoy your company. Ask them out. Say “hey I really enjoyed dancing with you and I honestly think you look stunning. Are you seeing anybody? I’d love to take you out later this week.” If you’re looking to get laid or a gf then how they respond will tell you everything.
