One of the best things about dance lessons is that you get to meet a lot of people with a shared interest (dance!)

You do look kind of stupid at first, but if you put in the time and effort you eventually look sexy, smooth, and suave (which is really just a type of sexy/smooth, isn't it?)

I echo the other comment here that said you need to learn a style of dance that is popular in your area. If it's salsa, great, a type of Swing? Awesome. Tango? Great. Do you not have specific genre clubs in your area and just have the typical top40/hiphop playing clubs? Then learn some hip hop moves and after months of practice you'll blow people away.

So first step, ask the teachers what clubs they dance at, and make clear you want to learn to dance at clubs (if that's your goal) and go to those clubs to see the vibe. If they say salsa is a big place and you show up to just a few people dancing, you might want to look elsewhere.

Second step, take some basic lessons to get your bearings and then after a month or so, invest in private lessons. Not a lot, maybe just 8-10 private lessons. It may be expensive, but this will boost your skills a LOT!

Third step, go dance and enjoy the confidence of KNOWING that you're looking good and having FUN with your new skills.

TL;DR- Check what dance is popular in your area and learn to dance that style, then take private lessons to accelerate your skill learning!

It depends heavily on where you live and what are the options. It won't do any good to learn salsa if there's no salsa places to go. Try going to a dance school, do some experimentation classes on the rythms. Ask the teachers about the places to go practice and their opinion about what should you start with.

I'm not gonna lie. Dancing lessons are pretty dificult on the beginning and you may feel like a fool sometimes. But for me, it was one of the best things i ever decided to do.
