Dancing is key in clubs, but the skill level is not important as you think. The key is confidence and owning your skills.

1) The white guy dance. There's a huge difference between the awkward noob dance and the hilarious noob dance. I've seen more success with the hilarious noob dance than a suave dancer in clubs.

Learn to dance fun and funny. You don't have to swing your hips well to grind with a girl, but for the love of god, spend 5 minutes to know how to not be terrible (i.e. flailing your limbs and pelvic woo-ing). Other dancing involves just moving around on beat (think of the safety dance, macarena, cha cha slide, and wobble).

This style is a great ice breaker (e.g. the overused booty shake), and tbh, almost every dance should start at the simplest level, unless a girl is already breaking out more complicated moves. Even then, girls can dance around an unskilled guy and the guy can still close with little difference.

2) The beginner to average dancer. Here you can employ some skill. Imo it's the sweet spot. You know simple swing moves and/or can move your hips with the girl. You can use beginner funny ice breakers or ramp it up, since most girls are at about this level of dancing. It's easy to use kino if you can adapt to whatever dance style the girl is using. You don't want to enter a dance circle with these skills, you'll look like a try-hard. Reserve those for hilarious or advanced moves.

Remember, awkward dancing comes from people who try to dance with their limbs first. True dancing starts from the core. Search youtube for basic or beginner dancing.

3) Good to advanced dancing. For people who do this as a hobby. It isn't as effective as you'd think, but it can be a great tool. You can use it with good dancers or to peacock it. Hip hop is one of my styles, and I've had amazing squatting to the floor grinding sessions with girls before (did not close though). I've also picked up an almost gf from showing off my moves in a dance circle and spotting the one that looked interested. The best thing is that this gives you the full range of techniques for dancing.

Pro tip: Bluntly saying "You want to have a dance-off?" doesn't work. Let it flow naturally. Dancing is about flow. You should also be just as ready to end it if you need to.

For each tip, dance in the mirror or camera. Practice at least a little. Watch youtube videos if you aren't sure. Hip hop and swing are the best styles for clubs and bars. Then there's niche styles like house for edm, line dancing for country, etc.

As other posts have said, dancing weirdly next to a girl won't do anything. Man up and dance with a girl. Do not rely on this every time, as it will make you weak at opening. Dancing is just a tool for your game. If your game sucks, dancing will hardly help. However, it's good for noobs to warm up. I made this post to show how it doesn't matter how good you are. Just understand the positives and negatives and own up to it.
