I'm putting myself out on a limb hear when I say that I think I have some emotional issues from my child hood. They're interfering with my ability to form close personal relationships, and even talk to girls.

My mother spoiled me and would never disciplined me. From this I have an inflated ego, and an unrealistic expectation of the world inherently being in my favor. My step father stopped displaying any sort of affection after I started puberty. We'd go months with out talking and he'd bottle his anger up until he would violently get froth at the mouth screaming angry. From this I have found it hard to make true male friends, and yet I still need to be loved and adored but only in a superficial way (musician). But I really, really want true, deep emotional relationships. I want to be loved and to love for things that matter; not celebrity and fame. I want to be proud of myself for my accomplishments and not what my ego tells me I'm capable of doing. I want to date girls I'm attracted to, and not because I need them as some sort of loving mother figure.

Where do I start? Almost every book written on the subject of narcissism is written on how to DEAL with narcissist. Might be helpful, but most seem to be for women in abusive relationships. Therapy would be great, but I'm in college with no financial means or insurance.

I figure, a lot of you might relate. In my limited time reading here it seems that being your own man and having true confidence is the first step to truly being able to have girlfriend/s.
