Once you get over the initial shyness and being able to say hi and say a couple of things, I would start going to places where women go out to meet men. Bars, clubs, etc. Clubs might be a bit intimidating so start with bars. Go out with a buddy and if you see a girl, make it your mission to go over and give her a compliment and then go back. Don't try to have a conversation, just introduce yourself and say "I just thought that dress looks really great on you and wanted to let you know. See ya around!" And then go back to your drink. So have no expectations, no agenda, just be a man who appreciates female beauty and wants to let them know.
Once you've done that a number of times, try lingering a bit longer. After you have introduce yourself and complimented them, if you have gotten a good reaction, just say non-chalantly "I'd like to get to know you a little better. So what's your story?" Have a chat, say cool, thanks, it was nice talking with ya, hope to see you around and go back to your drink.
Slowly progress until all nervousness has gone away.

Probably makes more sense to do that sort of thing at a bar. Club is going to be way too loud. Only downside is that I’ve found bars to be really loud as well, so you can’t really hear people. I could always use the shortcut method of getting dates through my friend, who’s really good with women. Only downside is then I won’t learn how to do that sort of thing myself.

I mean if you are going to come up with excuses, I'm not interested.

I’m just wondering if this sort of thing would be acceptable to do outside of a bar? For example, a brewery or a bike spinning class. Bars do make sense though as people go there to socialize, whereas people don’t go to a spinning class to socialize- so I see your point. Plus, if I got liquid courage into myself it might help. Really good advice though so thank you.

Be giving. If I gave you 100 dollar and told you to give it away to 5 strangers how hard would that be? Your attention/compliments are a gift. You don’t expect any return.
It’s probably just not something I’m used to doing. From what I’ve read on different posts, most women don’t really like compliments based upon appearance?

Making an observation and rolling with it has always been my go to but even just a cold approach, the hardest part is the first word. If a girls interested tho she'll help out by actually making conversation back. You'll have a bunch of awkward/random cold approaches but that's the way to learn.
I usually have women cracking up at me, but then we just sort of walk past one another with me thinking “you’re really killing it.” I just have a difficult time pushing the conversation past some opening thing.
