I usually try to set them a week apart (weekend days) since my schedule during the week is normally full with other things like sports, work-related dinners, meet ups with friends etc. If both got a life it's hard to schedule it in shorter intervals based on my experience.

Don’t listen to traditional advise, whatever that is. If you’re interested in her if she’s interested in you and there’s chemistry, see each other as often as you both want.

The longer it takes you to get to sex, the less likely it is to even happen at all.
Ideally you have one date and either she sleeps with you immediately afterwards, or she calls you up so she can come over and do that in a few days time.
The problem you have with letting things extend to a second-date scenario is either one of two things:
1) You didn't attract her on the first date. What makes you think you can do it on a second? 2) If she's deliberately trying to slow things down, it is her way of telling you that she's interested in "something serious". It also shows you that she's deliberately slowing things down because she has trouble keeping her panties on.
This is why - I think - second dates are for chumps. Yes, you may eventually have sex with her once she goes past date number 2 - but then you have to deal with all the expectations and BS that she's going to dredge up when she thinks that sex entitles her to an exclusive relationship.
If your goal is getting nookie and then disappearing immediately afterwards I suppose you could drag it out to a second date, but in an ideal world you want the woman to want you so much that she can't wait to get her panties off for you. THAT is more gratifying than being blue-balled by someone who knows you are interested but isn't as interested as you are and can afford to put you on the backburner and stall you.
