Maybe they are inviting playful teasing back? This can be a normal form of flirtation for some.
Depending if the behaviour is a nuisance and somewhat backhanded rather than playful, its definitely a 'challenge' or test.
Had an ex boyfriend who did this extensively when I became more independent in our relationship (was like a lost puppy / doormat before, took a lot of shit). Pretty much constant annoying behaviour and passive aggression, always felt like he was trying to get a reaction to affirm his social power over me.
I've seen the term "shit test", it could be applicable in your situation.

Because they like your reaction. They want a response from you either positive or negative. You've probably made it known you're into them whether you know it or not so they're just messing with you. You're probably younger that's why I assume that.
