You give her your number, don't ask for hers. Trying to get a number from a cashier you literally just met in that moment is so creepy and rude. Any situation where the woman has to be all friendly because she's getting paid to do customer service and you've talked for a whopping 40 seconds, it is always a bad impression to ask for a number and you'll either make an awkward cringe scene or get a fake number at best. But if you give her your phone number that's showing interest and respect at the same time so there's a chance she'll actually text you.
Bonus points if you carry pen and small notebook and write it down quickly to tear out page and give to her after flirting a bit. Because A having a little planner notebook implies you have a busy life if you're wanting to give that impression, B it implies you became interested while observing her (as opposed to having a premade something making it seem like you give your number out to every vagina you see), and C it demonstrates that you have stronger social skills (not holding up line by expecting her to get her phone out etc, awareness that customer service people hate being asked on the spot, etc).

Good call, less potential with public shame if it’s a no go. I’ll get a little notepad and pen handy for such situations thanks!

Write your number on a paper and hand it to her, this is the fastest and less awkward approach.
That way she doesn't feel uncomfortable by having a choice and time to think, if she texts you you'll know that she is actually interested.
Will do thanks!

At the end of transaction :
“Can I get your number?” Your phone is already open and on new contact. You hold it out for them. You have a big smile, visible in your eyes through your mask.
If she says no, or whatever, just say, “Have a great day!” And leave.
Guess I’m just getting caught up and over thinking it.
