Depends how you met her. I've always been ignored after texting them after the date. I found that it's best to hit them up next week with the intention of meeting up again

Call her. And have a nice steamy conversation. If it gets steamy text her your address and tell her to pull up.
Either she likes you or she dont

Do not text that shit after the date. Once they think they have gotten you interest is lost. Checking in after a date only betrays your lack of confidence that the woman is into you. Think about it. If you were confident she was into you, you wouldn't feel the need to check in, take her temperature or gauge if she's still interested.

I promise that if a woman likes you enough for a second date, she's not going to shoot you down because of a post date text thanking her for a good time.
The problem is your date.
What are you doing and saying on the date? That's what needs to be worked on.

Yes and no
Many times girls just want to meet up and have something to do. Then forget about you next day
Let's say you had the best date of your life! Just because you did. It doesn't guarantee you get the girl. Dates don't guarantee anything. It's a misconception

What is it with dudes on here assuming women are weird alien creatures or something?

No one size fits all. And frankly, on some of my very best dates, the woman is the one circling back first. A girl I dated for a bit recently sent a voice memo a few hours after our first date. A date I had this week, we talked about a second date at the end of the first, and she initiated the next day with some callback humor.
If you're doing the initiating, which let's face it will mostly be the norm in these early stages, I'd focus on callback humor/content too. If I've slept with the girl, and/or it's been an exceptionally good date, I be sure to do it within 24 hours. Other times, I might wait a few days. Think about how much investment is there, what the narrative is so far, and what kind of dynamic you guys have. You're just matching energy.

Always always always set up the second date at the first date

I disagree. You can’t show your cards too early like that. You have to let the woman wonder if he’ll text back etc
