Coming from a girl: Great that you took your time to feel good about your looks, that is the baseline for approaching new people.
As for 7), I would personally prefer if you made clear that you like me, but not in a way that 'we bang tonight or I'll find someone else'. To be clear though, I was not the type to have sex with random guys at college, but there where many wanting to have fun and get laid, especially freshmen, so chances are high! GL
PS: Sometimes I miss being a few years younger, back in college, but thanks for reminding me how hard the firsts are.

Thanks for the advice! Going off of your point on 7, how should I show I’m interested without being too much? My main problem is that I tend to be sort of an all or nothing kinda guy, and I have a hard time finding a good medium between things. What kinds of things should I say/do to convey that I’m interested in a girl without being like (as you said), let’s smash?

If it's the first party of the year, there's no reason to push it too much. See how the girl reacts to your comments, if she looks like she enjoys chatting with you etc. E.g. you can try (after finishing a drink, suppose she didn't reject the first one) saying 'are you up for another one, or...?' (that can actually stay blank). That will leave her some space to gracefully back off, keeping your 'needy creep' factor at minimum. As a result, you might end up with (1) her, (2), her number, or (3) her talking about you nicely to her friends.
Also, as others have mentioned, social circles are great - takes longer, but you are more likely to end up with a cool gf. So if you have a bunch of friends coming with you, just introduce her to them.

Observe the girls. Are they giving you signs they are attracted to you? Approach the one who are giving signals. And don’t be too goal oriented with what happens. Just let it unfold. You can meet some great friends too. the sex will happen don’t worry.

With the haircut, make sure to ask for blended sides or a taper haircut to "connect" the top and the sides so you'll get something like this and less like this.
As far as fashion goes, look around campus and see what the best looking guys are wearing. Most will be wearing simple graphic or plain-coloured t-shirts, jeans and Vans... probably. Work out what's "in" at the moment and emulate it without looking like a retard.
Get a social circle going. If you're a commuter like me it's gonna be difficult, especially if you study STEM (fuck me, right), but social circles provide always provide the best social proof. Girls want to make double sure that you're not a creepy loser.

Thanks for the tips! As for the haircut, that’s a perfect example of what I’d like to get, since my head shape is basically the same as the guy in the photo. And as far as social circle goes, I’m definitely gonna go to parties with some friends, I think that’s a good idea for not looking like a loser, hopefully

You can try to pick chicks at the party. But I will give another kind of tip:
Get into a social circle that is not only made of men. Make female friends and be-friend their female friends. Then, just start flirting with some of them and see how they react. Just be careful not to hit on two girls who are part of the same circle. I did this once and it was a big mistake.
