I can't get a girl close to me to save my life, all my dates have been an hour+ away, I think I also have a bit of anxiety when it comes to someone being so close and knowing a lot of the same people, because I have had a lot of nasty rumors spread about me.

It's because if you're typing things you get a chance to collect your thoughts and come up with better responses. IRL doesn't have that luxury so you're more likely to say stupid shit.
But like anything it just takes practice. You just have to get comfortable with sucking at it for a while until you figure it out.

I think it's just that we have expectations when we know we could actually get some. And when there is distance between the two of you, you are less attached to the outcome. This is only because you know that you probably won't get any so you don't try as hard (which turns girls on), but also because if you were to fail and say something stupid or get rejected by a girl who lives close to you, it would affect your reputation in your local area.

Its easier at least for me because there isn't an attachment that may sip in and have unrealistic expectations of someone else thAt is unless one or the other plans to visit. The mystery wears off after a time but the conversation still goes on.

Because of the mystery...
We as humans are attracted to people who aren’t attracted to us, don’t try hard, that are authentic and don’t take no ones shits.
When 2 people are far away they seem like mysteries to each other, it’s something new, a completely different lifestyle perhaps... therefore both are attracted to each other and wanna find out more, it’s something more unique than all the other close by options you have.
