Summary:
Last night I drank for the first time in a couple of weeks, and doing so severely held back my progress.
I’m not opposed to drinking, but if you do it to change your state, it does more harm than good (in pickup and in general).
Yes, it does help reduce social anxiety in the short-term, but those benefits don’t translate to your sober personality.
When I started approaching women in bars, I drank a lot but I could only approach when drunk. About 6 months in I met a friend who convinced me to try going completely sober.
For the first couple weeks I didn’t approach a single girl because I was using alcohol as a crutch. It was almost like starting from scratch.
Plus, when you drink you don’t remember much and so you don’t take as many valuable lessons from what happened. It’s hard to learn from mistakes that you don’t know you made.
Also, now that I’m comfortable approaching sober I actually do better when I’m not drunk because I can plan ahead.
For example, when I’m drinking I might talk to a girl who is clearly not interested for 30 minutes without noticing it.
I’m also less witty and less charming.
The cons strongly outweigh the pros. If you can have a drink or two without relying on it to get you buzzed, I think that’s fine. But if you have a habit of drinking enough that you get drunk, it’s going to hold you back.
In terms of results, last night was not my best outing. I didn’t get any numbers (I usually get at least three).
Most of my interactions were quick rejections probably because being drunk made my initial approaches sloppy. When I did have longer interactions I didn’t take them anywhere.
Main lesson is to avoid drinking when going out for a while. In a month or so I can give it another shot and see if I can keep it to 1 or 2 drinks, but having a lot did much more harm than good.
Number of approaches: 10-20 (I don’t remember lol)
Number closes: 0!
Were my opens smooth or choppy?
My opens weren’t as smooth as usual because I drank last night. I wasn’t as socially aware as I normally would be and my approaches came across as a bit pushy because of this.
Did I take massive action?
I did approach a good amount, and I didn’t spend too much time between approaches. However, I was mostly doing prank approaches (for potential videos), and I did this throughout the entire night rather than playing to win.
Doing some approaches for a video idea is fine, but I should mix that with doing ‘real’ approaches as well.
Did I project sexual energy?
One of the major disadvantages of drinking is that it mutes sexual energy. I didn’t feel much authentic desire throughout the night, I was approaching to approach rather than approaching because of sexual desire.
Was I fun in my interactions?
Moderately. I was playful, however I was also not nearly as smooth as I would be sober and I was not connecting with the women deeply so the emotions were surface level rather than genuinely exciting.
Did I lead my interactions effectively?
No. I had some opportunities to lead, but I wasn’t taking them. This is another disadvantage of drinking, I forget to think longer term and find a way to move an interaction forward.
When drunk I might stumble into something, but it’s more based on luck than my own actions.
Three things I did well:
I stayed out all night and did a decent amount of approaches.
I didn’t take myself too seriously (although this comes with drinking lol)
I did some very bold approaches that most people would make excuses for.
