So I was sitting in a cafe on my own after visiting with my Mum. This petite blonde sat down two tables over with her laptop. After fumbling around on my phone for about five to ten minutes I decided to go over and talk to her. I was worried about what to say and how to say it - but decided to be honest and authentic in why I was approaching.

After mentally pumping myself up in the bathroom I walked over and asked "Excuse me, you wouldn't happen to be a writer, would you?"

"No, I'm a nursing student"
"Oh, at the University?"
"Yeah, I'm doing my Masters."
"Cool - my Mum's actually a nurse. Actually I wanted to say come over and just say hi because I thought you were attractive."
"I actually have a partner."
"No worries - have a nice day."

Now telling her she's attractive right off the bat was probably not the best approach. But More important than getting rejected - I actually worked up the courage and took the initiative to make a cold approach in public to someone I didn't know.

This is what matters - having the confidence and courage to take the risk. Sure, she might reject me or tell me to fuck off. But what matters is that you take the chance (where appropriate, of course).
