If you expect it to get awkward, it's gonna be awkward. First and foremost, a single mother's most important THING in life is that child. I've had many a conversation on the topic with them, and that takes precedence. If you show that you are not only good with kids but mindful of the kid's wellebeing and entertainment, she will probably fall in love with you a little. You should never try to "replace" the father , but it doesn't mean you can't be better than him.

Have a fun time, engage both of them, show that it doesn't phase you and places you will go. Any less, move on dude.

Single young mom here. Take her to get some sort of take out and eat at the park, a carnival or beach or some where the kid can play. If she is happy for you to meet her little girl she must really like you. It doesn't mean she is friend zoning you, in fact I would say the opposite. My advice for you would be to change your destination to somewhere the girl will have something to keep her occupied (sit down restaurants without play grounds are a no go) Play with her daughter. Maybe even buy her a little treat.. If you choose somewhere where there is the option to both sit and observe and play with her that gives you some alone time with mum as well as the opportunity to interact with the daughter. Ok not to sound like a dick, but at 22 you are too young to date single moms. But that's just me. She is most likely to be looking for a father figure for her kid and most 22 year olds are not ready for that.

Do something where you can interact with both her and the child. Nothing will win her over more than getting along great with both of them at the same time.
