This is my first post so I'll start with a brief introduction. Using another account as my main one has the same username as all my social media accounts. I'm 18 years old Hispanic male. Never talked to many girls in my high schools years, but now I'm trying to make a change in my life. I'm currently attending a summer program along with 25 other people taking two summer courses and living on a large campus (30k+ students during school year). However, during the summer session campus is practically dead.

Anyway one of the changes I made was to improve my speech as I had a small issue with stuttering and certain sounds. I started reading/listening to books on how to improve my speech. These books were from English authors so now I apparently have an "English" accent. (This has probably given me the most confidence)

As my university is large there are several orientation dates. As I'm living on campus attending this orientation dates is no problem for me. During these days there are events scheduled at a large gym and a school sponsored "party". I viewed this opportunity to meet new people before cliques start forming. I no longer have problems approaching girls anymore, but closure is my biggest issue. I could talk to groups of girls, but I would rarely talk to any of them more than twice. I keep these women engaged in small talk and after two minutes one usually asked about my "accent" as they have never met an English Hispanic.

So I sarcastically state to my friend "You choose one girl I talk to, and I'll choose one girl you talk to". This was meant as a joke, but I went after it. So this girl walks into a gaming room and I take a seat next to her. I make small talk asking about major, where's she from, why she choose this university, etc. She doesn't say anything about my accent and I feel like I've already made her lose interest. They're playing Smash Brothers in this room and I ask her if she plays video games sarcastically. She replies she plays racing games, but she isn't into gaming. I chuck and ask her why she's in here when she could be dancing. She says she enjoys dancing, but with people she knows. I ask her if she wants to dance and she laughs and says no. Then I ask her if she wants to play Dance Dance in the adjacent room and surprisingly she says yes. We play this one song and I'm horrible at it, but I make my best effort. I have curfew at 11:00pm and it's 10:55. I ask her for her number and she says no. But I notice I have no phone or pen on me. Trying to improvise I ask to power her phone and have her message me promptly. (Yes I managed to get back to where I live before curfew)

Text for a while from 11:30 to around 1a.m. During the conversation I ask her for last name and she gives me her info. She also adds her first name in case I forgot. I laugh at this and we talk about how we have a mutual friend on facebook and how we know her (We live about 3 hours apart) This girl wasn't higher than a HB7 to me in person as she was simply in t-shirt and running shorts. But once I add her on facebook I start looking through profile pictures and see she's gorgeous. Another thing I notice her profile says she's in a relationship. However it doesn't say with who so it could mean she simply didn't update it. Now I'm trying to make sure she will remember me until fall semester starts.

To another small story. Yesterday I saw this cute asian eating lunch. I made eye contact with her and my friend tries to act as a motivator to approach her. I hesitantly decline for minutes. At this point I have AA and make the decision to approach her on outcome of a flipped coin. We make small talk and she's interested in my accent. We talk no more than 15 minutes and I state I love to continue this conversation another day and ask for her number. At this point I feel great I got junior's number. I can tell college is going to be a very different four years of my life.
