I'm not great at pickup. I'm right horrible honestly. Most of my dates come from online sources, app or otherwise. That said, the few successful relationships I've had have come from more organic interactions. Go figure.
The roommate invites me to eat some of this homemade pizza he's making with his girlfriend, but he requests that I go pick up beer for the night as a contribution. Cool, I'm on it.
I run down to the store, grab 2 six packs, and stand in the shortest line. This super cute girl stands behind me. Beautiful black hair, nerdy glasses, killer tattoos. I'm taken aback. I've got to say hi right?
She has potato chips and a pint of ice cream, I've got my beer. "Looks like we're both eating super healthy tonight." We giggle about how sad our nights are for a minute. I leave for my car. (dumb, could have at least introduced myself here)
She's stopped at the Redbox for a movie. I, determined, repark and walk up to her. We chat about movies; I get her name. There's lots of smiling. We talk about her tattoos and I tease her about what movie she's getting. I'm doing well. "Yeah, I'm going to try and convince my roommate to share some pizza with me." This is where I fucked up. Not because I was nondominant necessarily, but because I didn't try to instant date the pretty lady who's about to eat ice cream alone and be willing to impose on my roommate.
I live in a fairly quiet part of Nashville. This girl has to live near me if she's buying single serving sad bastard snacks like this. I start making assumptions that she's watching this movie alone and softly crying herself to sleep while the last 10% of chunky monkey melts leaving a condensation ring on the soon-to-be goodwilled coffee table she still has from college. The ideas are overflowing about what this night could turn into, but I didn't ask for so much as her last name, much less a phone number.
What I should have done: "Hey, you've already got dessert. My roommate and his girlfriend are home making delicious pizza from scratch. Come join us for dinner and a movie. It'll be fun." She'll have a better dinner, more company, another girl surely makes this less creepy, strong smiles, no pressure. Would have been grand.
Alas, I dropped the ball friends. Started worrying about if my roommate would care etc. I've known him for 5+ years, he would have been totally cool. Oh well, if she lives close maybe I'll see her again.
I found her on facebook, but I know far too little about her to add her. That'd be straight up creepy. She has a super common name, so it required some searching... Okay, I got a little creepy here. I wanted to brag to the roommate about how super sexy this potential was. Sorry.
Getting better every day y'all. Thanks for the inspiration!

TL;DR: Met a cute girl at the grocery. Got a name but nothing more because of head fog. Don't do that.
