I had a business trip in Italy for a meeting on Thursday and Friday and decided to stay for the weekend. I went to visit Como and asked around for a place to rent a kayak (suggested by a local at the meeting) and headed over to there. The girl that worked there was very hot (I don't know how to quantify it in HBx terms) and very nice. I asked about the kayak rental and said I'd be there the next morning to pick up the kayak, etc. She mentioned that there was a season-opnening party the next day if I wanted to join. I said I wasn't sure if I would be going to Milan, but that it sounded good.

Then I went out for a walk and thought I should go back and try to see if I could game her. I went back and said something like "Are you going out with friends tonight? I wanted to have some drinks but I don't know anybody here and would love to join you." Her response was that she wasn't. I tried again with "So could you recommend a bar for me?" but she said she didn't know because she was from a small town next by. I took this as a "I'm not interested" so I just said I'd look around and that I'd see her the next day.

The next day she was colder (although very helpful and nice). When I got back from kayaking I asked about the party and she said "It's not really that much of a party, we just have pizza and chat. If you want I'll give you an invitation, but I have to leave now" (she was going out on a boat with some friends). Seeing as things weren't looking good I thanked her and said I would be going to Milan. I think a problem might have been that, since I don't speak italian, she had to speak english which must have been tiring for her.

Questions: Was I too indirect? Should I have asked her out directly? (as in "would you like to get a drink with me when you get out of work?")

She gave me her business card with her mobile phone and email, and I managed to find her on Facebook. It's pretty clear that I won't see her again, but I kinda want to "maintain contact". How creepy would it be to send her a Facebook message or email saying something like "I had a great time kayaking! Thanks again! If you ever come visit my hometown drop me a line and I'll show you around."?
