Some context before you read the txt transcript.
Met this girl, coworker of a friend that works in my university's library. I worked across the hall at one point.
Talked to her for about 5 min before pulling the number. Textbook time constraint (hey I have to head out, but it was nice meeting you, and I'd like to keep in touch, *slides over my phone on her desk)
I proceed to text her immediately after I left. There was about 10 minutes in between for her to get all excited from our little conversation before and maybe for my female friend (her coworker) to drop a few nice things to say about me.
So here's the transcript. Started out with a bit of an inside joke about my old job across the hall from hers:
Me: Hey it's papercut guy! Will, or Bill, or w/e his name was XD
Girl: Hi! And you should probably start carrying bandaids around with you!
Me: Nah real men bleed on people when they shake hands
Girl: You're such an inspiration!
Me: Lol thank u! Im glad I made such a good first impression on u
Girl: You did, good for you!
Me: Haha thank u! Ur just throwing out compliments left and right. I'm starting to think u want to take me out for coffee or something
Girl: Oh my goodness, i guess i cant really say no to something like that!
Me: Haha u free Saturday?
Girl: Im free after 5
Me: Sounds good
Girl: So should we meet on campus somewhere?
Me: Yea we'll figure it out
Girl: Okay, i guess just text me sometime!
I took a chance here with the "I'm starting to think you want to ask me out for coffee" thing, but not particularly attached to the outcome. Didn't really care if she said no. Although I felt like there was enough attraction from out 5 min conversation for me to telegraph enough interest and for her to say yes. Guess I was right.
We proceed to have a great first date. Nothing serious. I was practicing at our local starbucks for a performance coming up in a week, and invited her to join me for coffee. Not really much of a close but set a great first impression and had a great time. I also had a friend's birthday party to go to after our date, so nothing happened.
*Day after first date (txting while I'm at the florist. Context: I'm hosting a professional speaker at my school and was buying her flowers):**
Me: How was dancing at 7:15 this morning?
Girl: It was simply enthralling, thank you! How was your night?
Me: It was pretty good! Good friend's birthday. Bunch of people over. Tried to sing happy birthday, but kept thinking about... earlier in the evening... ended up forgetting half the words
Girl: I wonder what happened earlier in the evening...
Me: Lol I had coffee with this totally awesome girl and sang for her and we talked for like 2 and a half hours and all that. It was a lot of fun. Jealous?
Girl: Weird, the same thing happened to me and the guy wasnt half bad either!
Me: Haha well totally not jealous. Pssh. Speaking of jealous, I'm buying a bouquet for another girl right now. She's 30 something, married, and is giving a speech in 3 hrs. U think I should get flowers for my adorable librarian too?
Girl: Awe, maybe the adorable librarian could put the flowers on her desk! I dont want you to go through trouble though!
Me: One problem though. If I get flowers for her, I'd need to see her today. I get done at 5 or 6 pm ish for the day. Idk when she's done tho
Girl: Well word throught the grapevine is thats she's out of work at 4 so maybe she can meet you somewhere?
Me: I'll keep that in mind :-)
Me: Tell her we'll figure it out this afternoon. Keep her phone on
Girl: Okay, she will:)
We proceeded to have a quick second date that afternoon.
Both of these groups of txts were used exclusively to setup dates.
Dated her on/off for a month. She was really shy, and I may have scared her off with how open I am. Eh, it's not a big deal.
But just wanted to post this as an example of some basic concepts of txting a girl.
- Try to save the flirting/gaming to live interaction. Use txting to setup the date. This is personal preference. Although from what I've seen here on seddit, most sedditors agree with the idea of using txts as a way to organize logistics rather than a tool to rely on for seduction/attraction/comfort building.
- Initiate the conversation not with "hey, what's up?", but something that will bring up the emotions of your conversation before she gave you her number (no matter how long or short)
- Assume attraction (pretty basic)
- Don't be attached to the outcome (when I said you sound like you want to ask me out for coffee, I wasn't expecting anything either way. I said what I wanted to say)
- Begin subsequent txts by drawing her mind back to the emotional state she was in when she was with you (second day I referred to the great date we had, bringing her emotional state back to where it was) Continuing the emotional state she had when she was talking to you in person is a great way to keep the emotional momentum going
- Roleplaying is a great way to build attraction without going too far into comfort building (sorry, I'm a sucker for some old fashioned structured game)
The principles behind all this is still detached from the outcome, build attraction before comfort, etc. Pretty straightforward stuff.
Nothing I said was canned lines. I called it basic txt game because it's just a basic open/asking her out. Pulling a number gives you a chance to progress, not a guarantee. You can still mess it up if you don't escalate the attraction you built during your conversation in person
