So I went in for a number close today and didn't get it. But I don't have any regrets. Felt good to ask rather than regret it later. Anyways, the context...I was volunteering and the girl working there was real cute. I thought I was getting some IOIs (solid eye contact, prolonged smiling, catching her looking at me) so I ended up starting a conversation about her job, etc. Introduced myself after we finished and got her name. Then asked for her number just as the conversation was slowing. She hesitated, seemed to blush, and was smiling. This is where I choked... I was expecting her to either say yes, no, or I have a boyfriend. There was an awkward pause where I could have closed. Instead, I ended up stuttering. She said she was seeing someone so I jokingly followed up with, "So is my girl friend" (thank you seddit). She started laughing and said she'd see me on campus and we both went our own way.

Looking back on it, this is what I learned. I am starting to get confident and AA is decreasing. Anyways, after I asked for her number she paused. This is where I could of said something that made the difference but I ended up choking... Looking back on it I would of framed the question by saying, "Sorry I gotta go but do you think I could grab your number?" Anyways, I was hoping to get some help on what to do. I feel like I make a stretch when I go for numbers, like there's not enough connection. Should I wait longer? Also what should I do if she hesitates?

TL;DR If a girl hesitates when you ask for her number, is there something you can do to solidify or affirm your worth to get the close?

Sorry if this is long or done poorly... first post
