Since my original post at /r/askseddit only got one comment in twenty-four hours, I decided that I should post here. Hopefully I'll get more feedback on this.

Just a little bit of background: I got the number of a cute and shy girl in one of my classes on the last day of school. We texted the day after to set up a date at Panera, which was today. (I'm writing this FR just hours a day after the date.) Outside of that, we didn't text much. I really wanted to lose my V-card, so I scouted a secluded place in the park, bought condoms, etc.

I picked her up from her house. I was thinking of how to escalate, but it seems pretty hard to do that while driving. We went to Panera, however I could sense that she was quite reserved. I tried to open her up with some banter with some success: she started talking about how her summer went, her plans after this summer, etc. I made sure to keep the overall vibe positive. When she complained about college costs being too high and having to enroll in community college instead, I asked her what she wanted to end up doing. Meanwhile, I teased her for eating her food faster than I did (which in retrospect, might've came off as teasing her for being fat). After she rambled on about her ambitions, I suggested that we stroll around in a park, where I could hopefully isolate and escalate more, but she said that she might have some stuff to do with her family later tonight. This was mentally discouraging, especially since I have heard this excuse (or similar ones) with some other girls I've tried to ask. I did try to keep a skeptical facade, asking, "Why not?" and such, but she stood with her decision, saying that "we can always hang out next week." I conceded and suggested that she text me when she's available next weekend (although I think it's more likely that I'll be the first to text her).

Looking back, I should've tried to initiate more sex talk, but it's just so hard to spontaneously do that (at least for me) when in the middle of a date. I don't have much experience with initiating sex talk with girls, so I definitely need work on that. I also think I should've cut out the eating-at-Panera part of the date and went directly to the walking-in-the-park part. She gave off an innocent vibe, so I should have made less complicated plans. Now I'm not so sure if I have a second chance at her. Do any of you guys have input, especially on kino, escalating, etc?

P.S. I would also like to get your suggestions on how to invite girls to "hang out" without being too awkward about it. I remember when after asking two girls at graduation party that we hang out, my friend said that I was acting too awkward and reactive. He said that I seemed to be "asking them out without really asking them out," which I don't completely get. What can I do about that?
