I've been feeling really outcome independent lately, I think I am pretty well over my approach anxiety.

Yesterday I talked to a lot of girls just for the sake of talking, didn't really attempt to get any numbers.

Today though, my friend invited me to sit in on one of his classes, because the professor is hilarious sounding and he thought I'd get a kick out of it (I did). Anyways this girl walks into the class a little late, sits about 2 seats down from me by herself. She was pretty busy with notes so I didn't bother her. I noticed her peeking over at me every so often though she's about a HB7 or 8. My friend jokingly told me to hit on her, just because he thought it would be funny. I didn't say a word to her all class. But I had a plan.

With 5 minutes left in class the professor gives everyone a handout like she promised. When I passed the handout to the girl I also passed her my phone, which was set to have a new contact put in, with the name "Gorgeous Girl". She giggles and I smirk and laugh a little bit. She hands it back, changed the name to "Cheesy" and put her number in.

Later on I texted her a little later joking about the cheesiness of the whole thing. I now have her real (full) name in my contacts and we've been texting quite a bit today.

I'm no expert, I'm actually very much a newbie. But I'm finding that more than half of the battle is just overcoming that nervousness, not worrying about being rejected and even if you're not super confident, at least act like it until you feel it.
