One day ago I submitted I don't like the idea of bars/clubs to meet people and Should I learn to read body language?.
Today, I discovered I would kill two birds with one stone by walking to the bookstore, talking with who I could and then picking up a body language book at the EOD.
First I was going to talk to an employee at the customer service desk (HB5-6) but some customer was talking to her. I waited FOREVER and that customer kept talking to her. I decided to say F it.
I walked around, looking for victims. Decided to warm up by talking to a dude who was by the video game guide section. I'm not gay, I just thought that was the easiest way to get warmed up. At first, he seemed not interested in talking, but I asked a few questions like, "Is this game good? I heard it sucks", "what are you reading?", "have you played this game?".
He opened up and at the end of our convo I accidentally cut him off by saying, "see ya" because I thought he wanted to go. Seems like a common problem I'm having with everyone. When I have to put any effort into getting them to start conversing with me, I assume they're in a rush and I let them go. But, more often than not seems they want to keep talking to me after I coax them into starting. I fail to read this so I cut them off early by mistake. Any advice welcome. Perhaps my body language book will help me here.
Next, I saw this black chick sitting on the floor reading a book with another on her lap. I read earlier that you should use props to start a convo so I figured I'd ask her what she was reading. That was when I noticed that she had a book about sexuality on her lap and I thought that wouldn't be such a great idea. I decided I'll ask her if there's anything she's read in this section (it was an eastern religion section) and she said no. I asked her what she was reading and she said an astrology book. Glad it wasn't another sexuality book because she might have been embarrassed to tell me. Yadda yadda yadda, I ask if she texts and then I ask for her number. She gives it to me. I told her I'd call her later this week. She said, "Cool!" If I'm going to be honest, she's like an HB3-4 and I don't even plan on calling her, but I think this is an important milestone for me.
That was the highlight of my story. Feel free to skip the rest.
Next, I decided to go to the cafe that's inside the bookstore to order something. Two girls were in front of me. I decided to talk to one while the other one ordered. I noticed there were a lot of young people in the cafe and I asked if she was studying for finals. She said no, she's studying for her AP bio class. At that point I realized I've been dating too many asian girls and have no idea how to distinguish a high school student from a college undergrad.
Next, I talked to the barista until she was making my coffee and her back was to me. Then I talked to this dude who was behind me in line. Some fat dude who turned out to be a programmer like me.
Walked around and saw this HB3-4 who was by the foreign travel section. Chatted her up, it was going really easy and I was going to ask for her number. Before I did though, she told me she applied to a college in the UK. Shit, fooled again. Yadda yadda yadda, "see ya".
Now I started to wonder if that black chick was a high school student, too... hmm. Either way, I saw her sitting on the floor somewhere else with another dude and his arm was around her. That's weird. Donno what to make of that.
Next, some 40 year old nurse. She was immediately really talkative about what she was looking for but then seemed like she didn't want to talk anymore and focus on what she was looking for. Fine by me.
I saw this HB7 by the card section. Immediately thought, I'm not ready to get the # of a HB7. After a while, decided, "Well, I should at least talk to her". I saw she was by this Unicef card section. Thought that was a perfect convo topic but as soon as I decided to walk up to her she walked away. I decided not to chase her down. Later we were walking past each other in an aisle and I said, "Hello" and she said, "Hello" and kept walking. Oh well, it's something? Later she went back to that card section and I was like, "Yes!" But, as soon as I went over there she walked away to the cashier. I am disappoint.
Next, some asian woman. Chatted a lot, was going to ask for a # then she mentioned her husband. Yadda yadda yadda, "see ya".
Ready to leave, intentionally asked a female employee to help me find my body language book. I REALLY wanted to find that HB5-6 I saw at the start but I guess she got off after dealing w/ that cockblocking customer. Instead I settled with a HB2. We chatted, she found my book.
In the check out line, cougar HB5 was in front of me. Chatted her up. She immediately mentioned her husband/kid. Yadda yadda yadda, "See ya". Chatted w/ the cashier who was a HB2. Walked to a fast food place to get something to go, talked to the male manager. Fin.
What do you think? Keep in mind this is like my 2nd day. The most awkward part to me wondering if the girl I #-closed was watching me while I talked to everyone else. The idea made me very uncomfortable. Advice on that, please.
