This was my first ever approach after lurking on seddit for awhile. Bear with me since this is kind of long.

Backstory: I was in line at a cafe buying some food for my group since we were doing a study session. I notice at the corner of my eye that theres this HB8-9.5 sitting alone at a table just minding her own business. I got my food, went to my table to drop them off and then I went to her table and asked if the seat was taken. She told me no and moved her stuff.

I sat down and turned to her immediately and told her "honestly the reason why I came here was to tell you that I thought you were really pretty" She smiled and giggled, and I asked her for her name. We exchanged names, made some small talk, then we talked about school. She said she just graduated from uni and is applying to med school, and then she asked me what year I was. I told her I was a first year, and we talked more.

I didn't want to drag out the conversation, even though we had good back and forth talk so I told her that I had to return to my friends to study and we said our goodbyes.

I texted her later setting up time and place, and she replied to me telling me that I look like a really sweet person but she couldn't seem to get over the age gap because she has a sister and cousin my age, then she told me to continue to be myself and that a girl will come my way.

There was no kino involved since I felt like our conversation was already engaging enough, we held constant eye contact, and I know to move on. But I want to know how I did for a first cold approach? Any tips?

tl;dr Cold approached for the first time, went well, got her number, she told me I was too young for her.
