Good night seddit. First time here doing a Field Report, so here it goes!

We arrived at 8:15 pm. Was by myself and a friend, lets call him Decibel. First things first, the reunion was for the birthday of a very dear friend of mine, Lexa.

We arrive, and say hello to Lexa and his boyfriend, Barroth. First, greet Barroth, huge GIMME-SOME-SUGAR-BRO hug, showing emotion, trying to transmit the emotion and excitement to be here. As I was a new acquaintance to most of the people in the place, showing this friendliness is a sure way to make them turn down or weaken their barriers. Remember, having the 'ok' from one or two persons in a set is a sure way to obtain the approval of everyone else.

09:15-10:15 Keep making small talk. We get together a group of friends, start just presenting myself, shaking hands and saying my name. Most of the persons were there with a partner or single guys, so unfortunately there was not a whole lot to game. But its still a party and I was planning to have a blast, so, fuck it right?

We sit down with the brother of Lexa, a mate from the same field. Me and Decibel start demostrating value, right away. We currently made a duo-project with photos, where we got a photograph rock events in the local area, and Lexa's brother actually worked with some of the guys in the band. Boom, we have found a mutual interest, and a friend of Lexa's brother comes and join us. He sees he's having a blast talking with us, joking around and stuff. Although he's an engineering student, he enjoys the creative work, and asks us for more of what we are doing.

To make the story short, we find out he's actually a schoolmate of a former colleague of mine at the university (Social proof x2) and he just keeps asking to see for more work. Unfortunately, I forgot to charge my phone, but I was able to show him the last set of rock photos, a lá Mystery's i-just-developed-this-photos way. Boom, more value.

A girl then enters the set, after seeing we were laughing and just pulling shenaningan after shenaningan. Something I have found really valuable is that people love hearing folkloric like phrases, where you play with the rhyme and metaphors. As most of the people I hang out are from middle-upper to upper class, they barely get exposed to this kind of talking, and having someone they know talk about them gets a lot of laughs around.

The girl that entered, I will be calling her Lipstick, as she had this huge t-shirt with big, red cherry lips. Unfortunately, I wouldnt call her attractive. We had a little of kino around, and she was a little, how to call it... Panty-thrower? Basically, it felt as if she was throwing herself to any piece of meat available, while still being basically sober. Sexual innuendos here and there, pretty aggresive mostly, but to keep her from stopping I just keep laughing at them and the other fellas didnt feel awkward about them at the end.

10:15-11:15

I start to get a little anxious about not opening other sets, as by this time there were a little more people in the gathering, but fortunately I had talked to Decibel about this and we decided to bring a camera along. Its a great way to just cold approach people without looking intimidating or creepy.

There was this set of 1 huge, fatty guy, a cute but overweight chick and a cute, petite brunette, probably a 7.5. I just go over to them, and go "Hey, picture, smile!". I show them the photo, and just ask "What do you think?". Great way to break the ice, unfortunately you wouldnt want to be always carrying your gear with you to start talking with everyone. Fatty guy tries to recall the interest to his persona, so I give him a little the spotlight, just affirming with my head and echoing his talk, boring as hell and annoying as fuck.

Then, right before I ask Decibel to come and just disarm the guy, with the intention of keeping the talk with Brunette and her friend, 2 other friends from university arrive, a couple from my university, and they just enter the set and start talking. This gives me a chance to start talking with the girls, and brunette talks about his career and such. She was really passionate about cooking, had self-published a small group of short stories with her friends, but she had to dropout from university as she ran short of money, but in the mean time got into culinary school and short of showed that she had ther shit together.

We keep on talking, she just keep on demostrating value, and the couple from my university had similar interests to her. I was getting a little bored about the set, and the petite brunette stated she had a boyfriend, so I wasnt that much into her anymore. I asked Decibel for the camera again, and just went around, cold approaching everyone and asking for a picture. Its just another great way to reduce social and approach anxiety, plus I was practicing composition and photography at the same time!

We hit the 11:50 pm, and the gathering was a little calm again, so I decided to provide a little more excitement. Decibel starts taking some photographs of Lexa, while she is getting prepared to blow the cake candles, which turns out some awesome pictures, and gives him more social value.

We then gather outside to the main garage, where we had this MLP piñata outside, we smash it, and then before the people start leaving, I find a ladder, climbing it and offering myself to take a group picture with everyone in it. The ladder creates a great compositon for the shot, and everyone loves the idea, so theres a little more social value, plus now you have a way to obtain everyones Facebook in case you wanna look them up later.

After that, we find a camera stand that was from Lexa's brother, and we kind of arrange it in a way that the stand functions as those "selfie sticks" you can buy in the malls. Everyone finds it funny, as I was calling it a region 4 selfie stick (this story is happening in Mexico btw), and this arrange also shows a display of wit, which I believe can easily create way more value than other types of techniques.

Lipstick Tshirt adds to the improvised selfie, but this time way too agressively kino-ing. I keep it cool, like its not something bothering, but I kind of felt that she was way too touchy (not that I dont like it, but I wasnt that much into her either)

The photos turn out great, but as it was already time to go, we just wave goodbye at everyone and get out.

Now, I have this huge bunch of photos from the piñata, a great group selfie, an awesome group shot, a few photos from friends at the party, and all this is a great way to "attention whore"/"demostate value" dans le Facebook.

Did I mention that there's this girl I dig who will see all this?

TL;DR: Just get out there, have fun, bring FUN THOUGHTS, IDEAS and POSITIVITY. Have a GOOD TIME, MEET PEOPLE, ASK THEM ABOUT THEIR LIFE, GET TO KNOW THEIR STORY.

  1. A camera is awesome, both as Ice breaker for cold approaching, but beware of looking like a creeper. Its also awesome, as you can ask everyone to tag their friends and now you know that girl who you didnt even ask her name but had a great time talking to.

  2. LEARN STORYTELLING. Check out how some comedians do it, everyone will love even the most lame story if you are capable of acting it out.

Finally, I suck at editing and proofreading, besides english isnt my native language, so any kind of problem you see here, just write about it down.
