I had to go a nearby Internet café for a quick e-mail check before going to work today. And on my way there, I saw a cute girl walking along the same street I was walking on. She was about 5'5, fair-skinned, sexy as hell. Our paths diverged on a street corner. She got there sooner than I could, so she was in front of me when we actually "met".

We both crossed several blocks but she didn't see me for much of the way because I was walking several meters behind her. I really wanted to approach her at that point but I was so nervous! I know all you guys are saying "Just say 'Hi!'" and I'm sure it works but when you're a bag of nerves it's just much more difficult.

Anyway, several blocks down when I had to make a right for the Internet café which was my original destination, I thought fuck it let's follow her for a bit until I can muster up enough courage to approach. Fortunately for me, she stopped at a "buy 1 take 1" burger joint that was just 1 more block away from my corner turn. So I walked up to that same place after she got there about 15 seconds later.

After placing her order, she walked out towards the sidewalk to stand outside while waiting (the place is really just a hole-in-the-wall kind of establishment where you just order through a window). After placing my order, I went outside too. But then two other people came to order food... At this point I'm really almost shaking nervous. How did I overcome it?

I walked up to her and just said "Hi!" with the most genuine smile that I could smile. It's night time so I'm not sure if she really saw it with the light outside, but I made sure I sounded friendly at least. When she said hi back, I immediately asked for her name. And then I introduced myself and lightly shook her hand. She had a weird, kind of confused look on her face but she was smiling. Maybe she thought it was funny that a guy was introducing himself to her at a place like the one we were on... she was caught off guard! :)

From that point on, I only asked questions ... "Are you still studying?" "Where do you work?" "Where do you live?" (That last one is okay because we're pretty much neighbors, she lives one street down from mine).

We had been talking for a good 5 minutes and I still had no idea how to ask for her number. But then something funny happened. My phone started ringing! Apparently, I had set an alarm to go off about 30 minutes before I had to leave for work just so I have time to prepare. So the thing that was ringing was actually the alarm bell telling me to get ready for work!

So then I took my phone out, and I had the perfect situational excuse to get her number. Some of you might think I could have asked for her number anyway, but I remember reading something here that said this kind of thing would be nice, where you could even set up like a fake number to call you just to be able to take your phone out of your pocket. And then transition to asking for her number from there. That's exactly what I did.

In the end, all my nervousness wasn't worth shit and I'm so happy for this victory, no matter how small. I'm going to text her right now just to say good night and possibly compliment the burger. It's delicious!

tl;dr I was so nervous at first, but everything went better than expected. I met a cute girl with a very nice body and got her number! And it all started with a simple "Hi!" :)
