So. My second night out. Slightly bummed. I "opened" two sets. Didn't get past the open on either.

After driving around for waaaay too long looking for a place to park (my knowledge of downtown Austin is seriously lacking) I arrive in the Rainey St district at around 11PM. My heart is already racing. I'm doing my best to contain the panic. Need a beer. (limiting belief) I actually walk the entire length of the street twice before I managed to get myself into a bar. Social anxiety is a bitch. Move out to the deck to drink my beer and smoke. I hit the bottom of the glass and decide to walk around a bit. Wander into another bar. This one is packed. Moving around is nearly impossible but I make my way to the bar for a second beer. (don't worry, last one)

At this point I finally "open" a set. Well, I was the one opened. I'm asked to take a picture of 2 girls and a guy. I introduce myself to one of the girls. She has an interesting name, so I ask how its spelled. She answers and almost immediately turns her back on me. Hrmph. Oh well. I keep working on my beer. The girl I spoke to walks towards a Ferrari sitting in front of the bar. Ok, re-open. She was smiling while talking to me earlier, better reaction than the girl on Wednesday, what the hell? I stroll over to the car, "Hey, want to help me steal this?" She smiles and shakes her head. "Are you sure? It'd be fun."

Hey, bring your drink over here, sir!

Son of a bitch. Mother fuckin' door man just wrecked my fuckin' set.

I'm really shook up at this point. I finish off my beer and head back to the street.

Second open. I compliment a girl on her dress as she walks by. No reaction. I'm a little annoyed. Spin and shout, "Thats ok, you don't have to respond!" I'm smiling. Its not an angry thing. She turns and smiles and says thanks. Might have been able to make something happen there. Still too shook up getting my set blown up earlier.

Head back to my car.

Ugh. Still a win overall. I managed to get myself out and about.

Lessons learned:

Warm up. I really screwed up by not doing something earlier in the day. Most of my day was spent in my apartment. Getting out and being around people might have desensitized me a bit before diving into the bar district.

Move with purpose. Wandering around outside the bars gave me too much time to withdraw into my own head. I should've walked to the first bar I saw and introduced myself to someone. "Open all" as Tyler suggests.

There's always next weekend.
