tldr Opened girl as she walked past me, spoke for five minutes, she left. I reopened after maybe 30 mins, she said she had a boyfriend, I flinched away/retreated, she said some more, I left.

I was sitting down in the lobby of this hotel writing in my diary and drinking a beer, listening to this girl directly in front of me play music on the piano. It was good, I assumed she was a guest having fun. She walked past me on her way to the bathroom, I said her playing was really good, we talked about music, I learned she was much younger than me, heard about her plans for college, learned alittle about her plans for college and after, what she finds interesting, related it to my own experience. She left after at least five minutes. the whole time she was standing and I was sitting there in the chair.

I continue writing in my diary, notice her throwing sideways glances my way, finish writing, play with phone, think I recognise a song, go over and ask her if it's 30 Seconds To Mars and it is. Go back to chair and second beer. She is continuing to give me the eye.

At the end of the next song, after my beer and "I'm leaving" coffee, I go over in the lamest way possible. I have a fucking napkin with "Wanna do something Saturday?" my name and number on it. I go to drop it, grow some balls and ask her if she, y'know, wants to do something Saturday. She says she has a boyfriend, I move towards the exit. She starts talking to me, possibly feeling bad or something because I probably looked like she'd hit me in the face (I'm very bad at poker.) I say she's lovely, it's a pity, she's cool and I'm awesome, something along those lines.

As I'm leaving I reframe as "Score! That's the first time I tried day game since I became single and I can see room for improvement already, I'm gonna kill this within a month."

Mistakes; Better Actions

  • Going over to check the song; Ask her as she walks past again
  • The napkin; Just ask her out already, even something dumb
  • Wanna do something Saturday?; Something specific, a movie would be better than nothing
  • Retreat after mention of boyfriend; "Oh really? So how does Movie sound to you?"
