Watched a Todd V video a while back on the topic, here are my notes with some added advice from personal experience, the original video found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBWtLFysmns
Preparation for the Night:
Preparation:
- Have your pad prepared including alcohol, some fun activities to pull to at the end of the night.
- Consider the way you’re getting home: you don’t want to have downtime when pulling because it kills the mood. Also, know bars nearby your place you can pull to before pulling home.
- Bring a condom
Venue:
- Consider where you are going (recall the four factors of venue: : amount of possible approaches; how receptive are those women to your style of game; how much sense do you make in that environment; how are the logistics.
- Consider how are you going to get in there: either know the bouncer, know when is the time to beat the rush, or bring girls with you that can get you in.
Company:
- Know your boys you’re bringing, and make sure you all know the plan for the night so there is no friction over what’s going to happen.
- Know what girls you’re bringing with you and if they will care if you leave with someone else.
- Don’t bring someone you know to be a wet blanket.
Know Your Goals:
- Three types of nights: “going live”; learning; having fun. When you go live, you are going all out to win. When you are learning, you are trying new things without concern for results. When you are having fun, you are getting creative without a structured plan to break up habits and experiment with new things you find interesting, not caring about the result. Remember, game should be fun.
- Consider having multiple stages to the night: starting off with a learning session before moving into going live. Breaking the night up will allow you to maximize your learning curve, plus, having successful pulls on the regular will keep your confidence high and reduce burnout.
- Set challenging but realistic goals for yourself: if your goals are too high, you will get frustrated and burn out. If your goals are too low, you’ll become bored and lose focus. Know where you are at, know what you need to improve on, and set goals accordingly. If you have approach anxiety, set a goal to make five approaches in the night. If you are at an intermediate level, set a goal to pull a hotter girl than you consider to be your current level. If you’re at an advanced level, work on perfecting subtly throughout your game by choosing an area to focus on like your opener.
Expected Value:
- Poker concept that translates to game: when considering whether a set is worth it, you have to compare it to the expected value of your normal game otherwise. For example, if you normally pull 8’s or above at an 80% rate, and you’re having a rough set with a 7, then this is a set you should generally drop since you’d, on average, be better off. Other factors will come in (e.g. if it is the end of the night, the set is more valuable, if it is early in the night, the set has less value, if you know the logistics with this girl are bad, the set is less valuable, etc.)
- Compare your current set’s expected value with your average expected value, asking whether this set is maintaining or improving value above expected value in order to know when to leave a set or not.
Mindset:
- Don't think about getting in state. Needing to be “in-state” to have game is a myth. Think of a high-level sports athlete: do you think they get “in-state” every time they take the field? No. There are das when they’re pissed off and out-of-state because of some personal problem, but they have the focus and the technique to still play at a high-level despite their mood.
- Assume you are enough and follow procedure. If your mindset is truly poor, imagine that this night out is a workout that you have to grit your teeth and get through to get those results. You know you will feel better about it when its over if you just keep your head down and press on.
- As a beginner if you have social anxiety issues, you can do exercises to subdue that:
o Affirmations: get in front of a mirror and tell yourself ten reasons you are the best decision a girl can make
o Remember past successes and know you will have future ones as well
o Watch infield footage to remind yourself that this is doable
o Trick Your Mind With Your Body: Acting confident makes you more confident, so walk around with your hands up like Rocky (in private), go dance on the dance floor to loosen up a bit, listen to a good pump up song before heading out
Remember this mindset: always focus on the next right action. That is all you need to do.
