I spent much of Thursday afternoon thinking about how I could reach out to this girl that I met last summer to make plans for new year Eve which I thought would be a good enough excuse to reconnect after I feel like I had already blown it once to a degree. I always kind of knew that if I went back to it properly I’d probably always have a little chance with her, but my friend suggested not to make NY plans with her and just to send her a message at 1am or so with a thoughtful nice new year wish.
Well I went and picked up my old phone that I still use for WhatsApp to do that, only to find that she hashad messaged me “Happy New Year 🥳” on Thursday evening and seemed to be interested in making plans! I messaged her back in the day today, “happy new year! Sorry I just saw this. Did you have a nice eve?”
She responded pretty quickly, “ yeah it was quite well.”
I know this is like the most common sense stuff in the world, but what is a good next move to that?
I was thinking of adding some of the back story between us but I think I’ll wait until tomorrow to give more information but basically we had a really good initial interaction after which she invited me to a gig that was a little more ambiguous and confusing, and I got a bit busy for a number of months although she did stuck in my mind quite a bit. Then she randomly reached back out to me by WhatsApp and I think I fumbled the ball a little in the exchange and she seemed like I’d made her feel a little overwhelmed and she declined to meet up. I tried to rekindle the correspondence once or twice since then but she seemed fairly busy with things. Now we’re both thinking of each other for NY at the same time last Thursday night!
I just really don’t want to mess it up because she seems really nice. And I’m always awful at writing smooth texts. Like any time someone competent suggests a test script it always seems so much more natural and appropriate than my convoluted blob of words. When I do them myself I always mess it up before I get to meet them in person, but my strength is definitely in in person interactions where the state is coregulated together with the other person’s presence.
Any help in proposals for next move super appreciated!
