I just came to a realization after my friend bailed on surfing that haters are held back by their mindset. This particular friend is pretty negative, but he was visiting my area so I invited him to go surfing with me. He bailed and when I saw him later that night he asked me questions that revealed his insecurities.

After thinking about this it clicked that he thinks everyone operates in the same mind frame as him. Just because he will talk shit about fat guys going surfing doesn't mean that everyone else will. In fact, I would say the majority of people are not talking shit. Furthermore, the people who are talking shit are the people who are not surfing, so it shouldn't matter what they think.

I think this can be applied to every aspect of our lives. Instead of being worried that someone might think you are weird for approaching a cute girl, think about how you would feel if you saw someone approaching a cute girl. Would you be stoked for the guy or are you a hater who would be jealous?

As I continue to improve myself, I become more positive which has opened many different possibilities in my life. Instead of worrying about what someone MIGHT think, I go do what I want and have fun doing so. I feel more carefree and able to express myself better without the fear of judgement.

Those fears and judgements came from a time when I was a hater and would talk shit about other people for doing their thing. Since I would talk shit and hate on other people I thought that everyone else did the same thing. In reality no one even knew what I thought, so I was only hurting myself.
