You really don't. However, unless you read minds, you might possibly be wrong about how bad it was.
Looks at her friend and laughs then starts to look at me again
This part isn't necessarily bad.
I give her the "sup" nod and she asks me "you going home" I said something really cringy and awkward and she laughs awkwardly. Asks me what bus I'm taking I tell her and her bus comes and she says bye and waves and gets on.

You were talking to her. Chill the hell out. She's a person. She's not a goddess. If you're already putting her this far up on a pedestal, you might as well accept the fact that you won't be able to approach her with any manhood intact.
And next time talk to her about something more relevant than buses. Ask her how she likes her work or how her day was. And fucking LISTEN when she answers. She will literally give you stuff to talk about if you listen and ask follow up questions based on what she literally says.

That doesn't strike me as awkward, it sounds funny. Unless you delivered it really poorly, she would be thought that was just ridiculous.
But next time, I'd recommend getting her to talk about herself, rather than being a comedian.
