How do I open direct without putting her on a pedestal?

Let me tell you a story:

I was at a restuarant today and I was sitting across from this beautiful woman. I watched her enjoy her lunch and time with her daughter. I was alone, and I smiled at her and she smiled back and I waved at the little girl and she waved back. So I start talking to the little girl and joking with her, and asked her to draw me a picture with the crayons and kids menu. And In between, I would flirt with the mom, but didn't really say anything about her looks, or figure, or anything. Just very subtle flirting. The waiter brought her check, and when he left, I said "What? No dessert?"

"No." she smiles. "It's too early for desert." (it was lunch)

"Too early? So... I guess I should pick you up around eight then? You like cheesecake?"

"I like cheesecake." she smiled.

"Cheesecake it is then!"

I didn't say anything else, and as she left, she slid me a piece of paper with her name and number on it. "I'll see you at eight." she smiled.

I just got back from the date. Not sure I'll go out with her again (she sent up a few red flags) but the moral is: you don't have to flatter a woman to get her contact information. Charming and entertaining beat vomiting compliments every time.

I would say that the compliment should be used in a way that frames the relationship you want with the girl. If you say, "hey, that's a nice hanbag you have there," it'll get her attention, and you will talk, but it's not the same as saying to her, "Hey, I walked past you just now, and thought to myself 'self' you will kick yourself if you don't go back and talk to that beautiful girl."

That's what I would do, but I have a practiced way with words. If you want, just memorize that second example. It's yours if you need it.

Complimenting her is kind of the point of direct opening. If you don't want to put her on a pedestal, revert back to push-pull. You don't have to juts throw words at her face, you can engage her with something like:

"Hey, I saw you from over there, and you have this awesome style, I love how you've got this casual punk look, I wanted to come talk to you and see if you were cool..."

In a nutshell: Frame, and qualify.
